January CEO Round Up

Published 16 January 2023

Happy New Year!

I hope this finds you all refreshed and revitalised after the festive break.

The end of 2022 saw the launch of our new study tours to France, South Africa, and Argentina/Paraguay, and there has been good interest in all of them.

Each tour is based around major field days and conferences, and are designed to be an educational experience for people in the beef industry – along with the opportunity to enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of the countries visited.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to have a look at the programs, I encourage you to visit our website and see the details here.

We have announced the members of the Beef Australia Stud Cattle Championships Committee, who will be guiding preparations for Australia’s most prestigious cattle comp in 2024.

The committee for 2024 is:

  • James Kent (Chair), Ooline Brahmans and Kent Beef
  • Margaret Olive (Championship Coordinator)
  • Marty Rowlands, KBV Simmentals
  • Bonnie Geddes, Couti-Outi Brangus
  • Tammie Robinson, AAM Investment Group
  • Anthony Ball, Elders Mareeba
  • Cindy McNaught, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries
  • Ruby Canning, Mavstar Simmentals and Photography
  • Maddie Morgan, The Grove Shorthorns
  • Nick Hughes, Farogan Valley Droughtmasters
  • Leonie Nicholls, Cambroon Park Droughtmasters
  • Rodney Bell, Beef Australia Director

Members of all Beef Australia committees make a huge contribution to the success of the Beef Expo, and I thank all committee members for donating their time and experience.

This month also sees the launch of the Beef Australia Graeme Acton Beef Connections program, which provides development opportunities for the future leaders of the beef industry.

The program was named in memory of the late Graeme Acton, a stalwart of Beef Australia and a leading industry figure who was always committed to growing the next generation of leaders.

The program is explained more comprehensively in this newsletter, please have a read and pass on the information to young people who you think have the potential for industry leadership.

Applications will open on 1 February 2023 through our website and close on 3 March 2023.

Things are really starting to fire up for Beef2024 with pre-planning complete and the team getting down to all the details that go into presenting a world class industry event.

This means that we are starting to recruit for positions across the full spectrum of the event, so, if you have an interest in being part of this great event, register your interest to get an alert when jobs open, or keep your eye on our website for current and upcoming opportunities. We would love to talk to you.

And finally, if you’re a local to the CQ region looking for something to do on Australia Day, head along to Rockhampton Regional Council’s Country on Kershaw event at Kershaw Gardens from 3:30pm. You’ll get to hear from young country music artists such as Taylor Moss, Lewis McKee, and Denvah. Local singer/songwriter Denvah was recently named in the 2023 Toyota Star Maker Top 10 list at the 2023 Tamworth Country Music Festival, so it’s sure to be a great day full of good food and great music.

Until next month.

Cheers,

Simon
