The Board of Beef Australia met with the Mayor, Councillors, and officers from the Rockhampton Regional Council last week to discuss development in the Rockhampton Showgrounds precinct that will come with the preparations for the 2032 Olympic rowing, to be held on the Mighty Fitzroy.
Mayor Tony Williams outlined the Council’s planning to ensure that any permanent infrastructure built for the Games will continue to be utilised post 2032 by users of the Showgrounds like our triennial Beef Expos.
Beef Australia Chair, Adelaide McDonald reiterated Beef Australia’s willingness to assist in promoting the need for upgrades at the grounds, and to ensure the issue remains top of mind with organisers in the preparations for the Games.
Staff at Beef Australia are having a break over the Christmas New Year period with our office closing from Monday December 22 and reopening on Monday, January 5.
That Monday in January will mark 482 days until we open the gates on Beef 2027 and the rush for us begins in earnest.
Our program of events will be launched in May 2026, with tickets on sale from October, again with members getting early access to functions before they are released to the public.
Trade Fair exhibitor applications are still open (see item below) – closing on February 4. If you are considering applying for a site, please get it in before then.

Beef Australia appoints Beef 2027 Cattle Competition Chairs
Beef Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Committee Chairpersons for the 2027 AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition, Nutrien Ag Solutions Commercial Cattle Championship and Nutrien Ag Solutions Stud Cattle Championship.
Congratulations David Hill, Angus Creedon and Matt Welsh.
The Committees are responsible for developing and delivering the program of events for each of the competitions and showcasing the best beef cattle the nation has to offer.
National standards will be benchmarked through the Carcase, Stud and Commercial Cattle Competitions, with participation coming from all over Australia.
Chairperson of the National Beef Carcase Competition Committee
David Hill – Clarke Creek, Central Queensland
David Hill is a Partner in a family beef breeding and fattening business in Clark Creek, Central Queensland. Their business aims to produce cattle that are able to meet premium market standards, as efficiently as possible. This includes measuring soil health and pasture quality as part of our decision-making process.
Mr Hill says, “I am looking forward to the new technologies that may be on offer at Beef Australia 2027. The innovation within the beef industry is exciting and we now have an in-paddock weighing system as well as trialling a virtual fencing technology, that we didn’t have prior to the 2024 event”, he said.
Chairperson of the Commercial Cattle Championship Committee
Angus Creedon – Garnant, Central Queensland
Angus is currently the General Manager of Cattle for Hewitt, and this will be his second appointment as Chair of the Commercial Cattle Competition Committee.
Angus resides at Garnant outside of Rockhampton with his wife Lauren and 3 children. “I grew up on the land and have a deep passion for the agricultural industry and in particular, the beef sector”, Mr Creedon said.
Chairperson of the Stud Cattle Championship Committee
Matt Welsh – Taroom, Queensland
Matt and his family operate a beef breeding / seedstock operation, Huntington Charbrays, based at Taroom, Queensland. He has previously enjoyed many opportunities to both judge and present cattle at previous Beef Expo’s. “I am somewhat excited to be offered a chance to be part of the Stud Cattle Championship Committee dedicated to making Beef 27 a memorable and standout event”, Mr Welsh said.
“Creating the ideal platform for all beef breeds to showcase both their product and most importantly the roles each breed plays in the beef industry, will be front of mind as we bring this event to life”, he said.
