Applications open for Beef Australia’s Pitch in the Paddock competition
Published 22 September 2026
Beef Australia is calling for applications from start-up businesses, commercial ventures, and researchers commercialising agricultural innovations to apply for its Pitch in the Paddock competition.
As the only competition of its kind worldwide, Pitch in the Paddock gives entrepreneurs the chance to present a beef-focused business idea, proof of concept, prototype or new product to the Southern Hemisphere’s largest gathering of beef stakeholders.
Beef Australia CEO Simon Irwin said the competition provides a unique opportunity for finalists to reach their target audience and connect with stakeholders they may not otherwise meet.
“Beef Australia’s Pitch in the Paddock Competition provides a platform for start-up businesses to pitch their product or service to beef industry stakeholders, investors, influencers and media all in the one place,” Mr Irwin said.
“A group of finalists will be selected to pitch their beef-centric business idea live, on-stage at Beef2027, and receive feedback on their product or service from esteemed industry experts.
“The competition gives finalists unmatched exposure to potential investors and business experts, while showcasing their emerging venture and innovation designed to shape Australia’s beef industry.
Mr Irwin said the 2027 competition will introduce new elements designed to strengthen commercial readiness, build industry connections and attract innovations from a broader range of sectors beyond agriculture.
“Solutions from any industry are welcome in Beef Australia’s 2027 Pitch in the Paddock competition, as long as they have clear, credible applications and potential benefits to Australia’s beef industry or supply chain.
“We will also be introducing a People’s Choice Award at Beef2027, where the live audience can vote for their favourite pitch.”
“We strongly encourage start-up businesses and ambitious individuals with bright ideas to apply for the 2027 competition and take the opportunity to win $10,000 to help turn their innovative idea into a reality.”
Queensland Minister for Primary Industries, Tony Perrett said the Crisafulli Government is focused on supercharging ag tech innovation across all primary industries and commends Beef2027 for championing it through this exciting competition.
“Queensland is Australia’s beef powerhouse, and staying at the forefront means continuing to back new ideas that can make our producers more productive, efficient, and competitive.
“Pitch in the Paddock is a great opportunity to connect innovators with people who understand our beef industry best and potentially turn a bright idea into a practical solution that delivers benefits right along the supply chain.”
