AMPC NATIONAL BEEF CARCASE COMPETITION, SUPPORTED BY MLA MEAT STANDARDS AUSTRALIA
The AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition, supported by MLA Meat Standards Australia is conducted as part of the Beef Australia 2024 event, concluding at Beef2024 with the AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition supported by MLA Meat Standards Australia Awards Dinner on Tuesday, 7th May.
The AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition, supported by MLA Meat Standards Australia aims to give feedback to producers about compliance of beef carcases to market specifications, lean meat yield, and predicted eating quality of those carcases (MSA index). The appraisal system utilised in the competition is specifically designed to meet both export and domestic market requirements and uses the latest technology available to the beef industry.
A new class was introduced into the 2024 competition, allowing for weights of 360 kilograms or over into a new Open Class unrestricted feeding section, allowing for entries from producers who target long-fed markets.
A new award category, ‘The Most Successful Plant’ Award was also introduced, in recognition of the hard work each participating plant contributes to the success of the AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition, supported by MLA Meat Standards Australia.
Prizes
Trophies will be awarded to the winning pen in each class. Prize money will be awarded to first, second and third prize winners in each class:
- First $1,200
- Second $800
- Third $600
Ribbons will be awarded to first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth place in each class.
There will be a MSA Index Award whereby MLA will award a trophy to the winning pen of three carcases with the highest combined MSA Index scores.
The Champion Pen and the Reserve Champion Pen will be awarded to Highest Scoring Pen of three in Classes 1-8.
Individual Carcases
The Achievement Award will be awarded to the overall Champion Carcase and Reserve Champion Carcase. Championship trophies will be decided on individual carcase scores only (i.e. the highest individual score out of 100).
There will also be a MSA Index Award whereby MLA will award a trophy to the winning individual carcase with the highest MSA Index score.
