Beef Australia Executive Chef Shane Bailey is leading a group of Sunshine Coast chefs, who have teamed up with charity BeefBank, to produce meals for people on the Sunshine Coast impacted by Covid-19.
The initiative will see chefs volunteering their time and skills to cook thousands of meals. Production will take place in Cooroy commercial kitchen, Food Profilers, with meals then provided through charities to people across the Sunshine Coast, from Caloundra to Gympie.
Shane Bailey said the initiative was an extension of BeefBank’s important work in providing red meat to charities to develop meals.
“BeefBank has been supplying charities with red meat for meals since 2005. Given the widespread impact of Covid-19 across many industries including the hospitality industry, we want to give back by working directly with BeefBank to cook meals for those who are doing it tough”.
BeefBank Director Andrew Rodgers said that BeefBank was proud to partner with Shane Bailey to deliver such an important service. “We realise that many people are facing difficulty due to Covid-19 and we want to take some of the pressure off by providing hot meals to our community.”
Beef Australia CEO Ian Mill said “We are proud to support Shane’s work with BeefBank. Providing delicious beef meals to those in hardship is a great way of showing people that they are part of a caring community.”
The initiative has been well supported with McCormick and Oz Harvest supplying herbs, spices and pantry items, Lotus Glen Prison farm making the first beef donation and Blair Angus from Signature Beef sourcing different cuts of meat that can be used to produce quality meals.
Noosa Council has supplied containers and is now assisting to deliver meals.
“We are working with a number of suppliers but would love to hear from anyone who has excess produce or products that we could use,” added Shane.
Established in 2005 in response to a need for more meat donations, BeefBank is an Australian charity that has produced more than 500,000 nutrient-rich beef-based meals to those in need. It is also the only charity of its kind that sources, processes and supplies meat for distribution by providing charities such as FoodBank with good quality meat.
In order to keep supplying beef to partnering organisations, BeefBank relies on cattle donations and financial support; and is encouraging producers, suppliers, transporters and processors within the cattle industry to get behind the cause.
