It’s hard to believe that our industry’s biggest showcase event is now less than 12 months away, but it’s great to see the level of excitement and enthusiasm that already exists ahead of Beef Australia 2015.
That excitement was evident at out official Brisbane launch last Thursday where almost 100 of our closest supporters turned out to hear our plans, and we will be catching up with our Rockhampton partners at a similar event in the Beef Capital tonight.
Our team has been working hard to ensure the expo, to be held on May 4-9 next year in Rockhampton, acts as a platform to grow the industry and showcase our great product to the world.
The cattle competitions will again be at the core of the event and we’re hoping for close to 5000 entries across the stud, commercial and carcase competitions.
However, we are placing an added emphasis at next year’s expo on beef as a product, with new initiatives to showcase Australian beef as healthy and delicious source of protein for consumers around Australia and the world.
Beef Australia 2015 has engaged Shane Bailey, executive chef at Noosa’s Boathouse restaurant, to lead our food program and work with everyone from local restaurants through to international celebrity chefs so that we can educate consumers on how to enjoy beef in ways they have never experienced before.
We also want to build the capacity of our industry so that it can continue to grow in the future, which is why we are going to create the Beef Australia 2015 Future Leaders Program.
The mentoring program will support the acquisition and retention of young producers by fostering relationships with high-calibre, senior industry leaders. This will assist young beef industry members to be more effective in their current roles, as well as grow their skills so they can take on new leadership positions in the future.
Both of these initiatives are still in their early stages of development – we will be updating industry further once the details of how the public can participate are finalised.
