With the national cattle industry exposition now less than a week away, organisers of Beef Australia 2012 are urging visitors to plan ahead to avoid delays due to changed traffic conditions.
Those travelling from across regional Queensland may face delays on the major highways, which are being repaired due the damage caused by the 2011/12 flooding.
And a number of local roads have been closed to accommodate the event, which is expected to attract about 70,000 people through the gates of the Rockhampton Showgrounds during the week of May 7-12.
“We would like visitors to be able to spend as much time as possible enjoying Beef Australia 2012, so it is important that they plan ahead,” Beef Australia Chief Executive Roger Desailly said.
“Information on changed local traffic conditions, on-site parking, and alternative transport arrangements including discounted bus fares and bus timetables, is available at www.beefaustralia.com.au.
“For information on highway roadworks and expected delays, visit www.131940.qld.gov.au or call 13 19 40.”
Within Rockhampton, the heavy lifting involved in setting up and dismantling the on-site facilities means the Lion Creek Road, between Hall Street and Exhibition Road, will be closed to all through traffic until 7.30am on Friday, May 18, while Exhibition Road, between Lion Creek Road and Wandal Road roundabout, will be closed to all traffic until 7.30am on Tuesday May 15.
However, for those travelling by car, parking is available on the ovals of the Rockhampton State High School. The entry is opposite the CQ Leagues Club, with access via North Street.
People wishing to avoid these delays can travel to the Rockhampton Showgrounds by bus, with discounted fares on Youngs Bus Service available to Beef Australia 2012 ticket holders.
The discounted fares are $3 one-way or $6 return from Yeppoon and Emu Park; and $1.50 one-way or $3 return from Gracemere to Beef Australia 2012.
To be eligible for this discount, passengers must show one of the following:
Buses will pick up and drop off outside the main entrance to the Rockhampton Showgrounds on Exhibition Road beside the Robert Schwarten Pavilion.
